Artist Statement

I think of myself through my art as an explorer through uncharted lands or an astronaut going into vast outer space. I seek a sense of adventure through the realms of consciousness. What I am looking for is a place that exists, but never seen, or perhaps lost and forgotten in the fog of time. The only way I can really know for sure is to explore the past, and ideas of what the future may hold.

I like to connect the object or material to a metaphor or mystical experience. Using diverse materials comes about either for aesthetic purposes or as a tool to share a narrative. With the materials I use when creating my work, I get swept up into a mystifying journey, be it from conception, to the physical act of manifesting ideas. I am interested in the exploration of materiality, and how it can be used as a tool to tell a story.

When attempting to work with stone, I can’t help myself from wondering about the process this material went through to be with me at that moment. Millions of years of life and death over and over again with tremendous heat and pressure, to dust swept away and into the trash. The physical act of carving stone or creating any objects for that matter, from steel too wood has a powerful meditational effect on me.
