Joshua Pyburn was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1982. He is married and has two daughters and one son. Joshua has a Bachelors in Fine Arts a minor in Art History at Purdue Fort Wayne, and a Masters in Fine Arts in sculpture from Maryland Institute College of Art.

He spent a lot of his childhood living on horse farms all through out the south east, and in such places like Eagleville ,TN to Hilton Head Island, SC. At the age of 20 in 2003, Joshua joined the U.S. army and trained to be a diesel mechanic while stationed in Fort Irwin, CA. He did a year long tour in Tikrit, Iraq in 2005. While in Iraq, Joshua learned a lot about war, diverse cultures, and the tribal bond one experiences with others in difficult times.

Due to going to four high schools and moving a lot early on in his life he found it difficult to develop any artistic skills. Despite migrating a lot, he was still talented and found ways to create murals while in basic training, his duty station in Ft. Irwin, and also in Iraq. While he was completing his certification in Auto Body Technology, he realized his true passion was communicating his ideas through art.  In 2013 Joshua entered the fine arts program at Purdue Fort Wayne. Soon after starting the sculpture program he received a grant to learn stone carving at the Indiana Limestone Symposium. Joshua loved the process of carving stone, and since then always finds a way to incorporated it into his work.

In 2016 Joshua was accepted into the Rinehart School of Sculpture at Maryland Institute College of Art,   with his wife, two daughters, and chihuahua, they packed up for a new adventure in Baltimore, MD. There he met and worked with people from all over the globe, from China to Turkey. While studying at MICA he learned more about theory and art culture, while developing his own voice.

Joshua Pyburn currently maintains a studio practice in Indianapolis, IN.
